Music Workshops
We will be running fiddle and accordion workshops before the bal 6.00-7.15pm. Andy and James will teach tunes from their repertoire with approaches to arrangment for dancing and listening. The workshops are aimed at intermediate and advanced players and are not suitable for beginners.
Melodeon/Accordion Workshop with Andy Cutting
Although some of the content of Andy's workshop will be specific to the melodeon, piano and chromatic accordion players are welcome to join.
Andy Cutting has been a consistent and powerful musical force since he came to prominence with the innovative Blowzabella. As well as a thorough grounding in the English tradition, Andy's influences extend way beyond these isles, particularly to the music of Central France and to the storming Quebecois tradition. Widely regarded as a genius on the melodeon, he is a three-times winner of Best Musician in the BBC Folk Awards. He is a compelling solo performer and as well as Blowzabella, Topette!! he is also playing with June Tabor, and Roger Daltry.
Fiddle workshop with James Delarre
James Delarre was brought up in an Essex family steeped in folk music. James (violin and vocals) and his brother Dave on guitar are the driving force in Mawkin. James is fully conversant with traditional music and consciously reflecting an English style, yet visionary enough to use the rich breadth of modern influences which they've also readily embraced.. As well as Mawkin and Topette!! He is currently writing and performing with the duo James Delarre and Saul Rose and continues to work with Eliza Carthy. www.jamesdelarre.co.uk
